Dear Kahne/Walker Alumni,

We are writing today with some disappointing news. Given the current situation with international travel as well as developing news regarding Harvard’s financial situation, we have decided that we must postpone the reunion this June.

This is an unfolding situation, and while things are changing rapidly, we don’t anticipate the situation will improve in the next 2.5 months. We are concerned that it’s not the right time to have a celebration both because of new financial constraints the university has begun to implement in reaction to sanctions from the US Government, and because we need to focus our energy on working with our current students, many of whom are now facing an accelerated timeline to finish up their work at Harvard.

We are also very concerned with additional complications that accompany international travel. New reports continue to emerge both in the news and in direct conversations with travelers who have experienced more intrusive and disruptive interactions while trying to enter the country.  Therefore, we feel there is simply too much risk in having our colleagues travel in and out of the U.S. at this time. We hope that this ~10 week lead time will allow people to cancel plans without financial penalty.

We know that many of you (including ourselves) will be very disappointed with this decision. We wish we could proceed as planned, but it seems that much is working against us this year. We also want to acknowledge the hard work of the planning committee who has been coordinating to put this event together; hopefully, this will be a simple postponement and we can pick up where we left off in the near future.

We hope we can see you all soon. Take care and stay safe.

 Warm regards,

Dan and Suzanne
